2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Poor Response
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a clearer direction.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling the project with a revised approach, aiming to better meet community desires.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.
Here is the full message from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”
With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the necessity for a sharper identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having spent the last 15 years developing and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in welcoming Ben soon. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the evolution of the game in the months to follow.
David

Title Details and Vision
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year alongside a early access event. Then, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the description reads. "Challenge the competition with unique powers, stakes, and tests that evolve every match. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Alternatively take a risk, put it on the line, and hope your squad can secure victory? The option is up to you."
The game lacks an announced release date or platforms, but players can look forward to further news as creation advances.
